Overview
An important element of Bloodline: Heroes of Lithas is leveling up your
Champions, and the resource needed to level them up is Gold. While you
can get Gold in several ways, the primary source is your Districts.
Unfortunately, the Game Developers made it fairly difficult to understand how
Gold Income is determined, via a combination of inadequate Information Bubbles
and outright errors, which makes optimizing Gold Income even more difficult.
Here we'll step through how Gold Income from Districts is determined, paying
particular attention to the biggest components and what factors the Players
can optimize.
Conclusions
Here is a summary of Sources of Gold Income, along with ways you can improve
each Source:
-
District: 20 - 25% of Income
-
Specific District
- Advance in the Campaign to unlock 2 of each District Type
-
District Level
- Upgrade with Construction Plans to get a higher District Level Multiplier, and to assign an additional Champion every 5 Levels.
- Make sure to buy 5 Construction Plans every 24 hours in the Guild Store, for 800 Guild Contribution. It's quite cost effective.
- Upgrading the Market and Tavern Districts as quickly as possible is key because you can have a large number of high Leadership Travain and Sallyhorn Champions if the advice in Traits: Generation was followed.
-
Hired Workers
- Upgrade with Food.
- Except when a Quest directs you otherwise, it's best to Hire all Workers at earlier Districts before progressing to the next District, as the cost of Hiring Workers increases dramatically with each District

Game Screens and Their Meaning
The Game Developers provide quite a bit of information on what goes into
District Income, but don't provide much guidance on where those numbers come
from (as well as have multiple errors). Let's step through the
information they provide and decode what each of them mean.
Main Districts (MD) Screen
If you click on the Districts image in your City it takes you to the Main
Districts Screen. In the bottom left corner you will see your "Total Tax
Collection Speed" (TTCS) value, along with an Information Bubble.
Clicking on that Bubble gives you a bird's eye view of where your income is
coming from.

|
|
Specific Districts (SD) Screen
Many of the values in "MD - TTCS" are accurate and are simple sums of the
values in the Specific Districts screens, but two of them are outright wrong
and should be ignored entirely (as marked in the image above). For more
accurate information you can click on a Specific District. Doing so
brings up a screen with three tabs, all of whose information are necessary to
properly reproduce District Income. Furthermore, there is another "Total
Tax Collection Speed" (TTCS) Information Bubble, which contains more accurate
information than the Main District one (although there are still errors).

Let's break down everything we can in the "SD - TTCS" screen.
Income Calculations
District Tax
-
Base Tax: a Fixed Number based on the Specific District.
There's nothing Players can do to modify these values:
- Entertainment - Market: 200
- Trade - Tavern: 300
- Production - Production: 400
- Agriculture - Pasture: 500
- Production - Industrial: 600
- Entertainment - Faire: 700
- Agriculture - Mill: 800
- Trade - Harbor:
- Entertainment - Market: 200
- Laborer Tax: Equal to (SD - Hire)::Hired Workers * (SD - Hire)::Laborer Tax / 10.0. Why are they dividing by 10.0? Absolutely no clue.
- District Level Multiplier: Equal to {(SD - Level Up)::District Level - 1} * 10%
The Income associated with this District Tax isn't actually provided by the
game anywhere. However, taking the Total Tax Collection Speed and
subtracting off other identified elements we can arrive at the following
formula:
District Income = (SD::Base Tax + SD::Laborer Tax) * (SD::District
Level Multiplier + MD::Guild Level Multiplier + 100%)
The Guild Level Multiplier is applied here, resulting in a deceptively small improvement given the calimed "30%" increase. It's an additive 30% as opposed to a multiplicative 30%, and it only applied to District Income.
Companion Bonus
- Charm Bonus: we have never seen a value here other than "0%", so no clue what this is
-
Charm Multiplier: the sum of Income from reaching Charm
Checkpoints on your Companions (click a Companion's Portrait, Select the
Charm Tab, and click the Information Bubble on the left below the
Portrait). This is NOT a multiplier, it is simply an amount of
Income for Companions associated with this District Type. Depending
on the number of Stars for your Companion, the Cost in Charm versus the
Improvement in Income dictates a best order to increment the Charm on your
Companions:
- Special Three-Star Companions (e.g. - Fulgur, Doombringer) - these Companions increment their Income by 100 for each Charm Checkpoint
- Regular Three Star Companions - these Companions increment their Income by 75 for each Charm Checkpoint
- Two Star Companions - these Companions increment their Income by 50 for each Charm Checkpoint
- One Star Companions - these Companions increment their Income by 25 for each Charm Checkpoint
- Codex Bonus: the sum of Income from spending Charisma in the Companionship screen (click Companions from the Main Screen, then click the Companionship Tab)
Companionship Income = Charm Multiplier + Codex Bonus
Champion Bonus
- Leadership Bonus: the sum of Leadership values for all Champions assigned to this District IGNORING Leadership improvements from Traits
- Trait Bonus: the sum of Leadership improvements from Traits divided by 100. Why are they dividing by 100? Absolutely no clue.
See District Income: Champions for a list of Champions, ranked according to District Type and which
Champions have the highest Leadership values.
Champion Income = Leadership Bonus + 100 * Trait Bonus (more
accurately, the sum of Leadership values from the "SD - Assign"
screen)
Clan Bonus
- Vassal Multiplier: we have never seen a value here other than 0%, so no clue what this is
- Vassal Bonus: the sum of Super-Secret values on the Renowned Champion screens (click Champions from the Main Screen, click the Renowned Champion Tab, select a Champion, click the Renowned Champion Tab, and read the fine-print for the entries "Acquire 1 Companion from the ____ Clan" and "Court ____ Clan member 200 time(s)")
Clan Income = Vassal Bonus
Income Summary
If you perform these calculations then you can reproduce both the "SD - TTCS"
and "MD - TTCS" values to within a few points.
