Overview
Traits modify the Stats (e.g. - Leadership, Constitution) or Abilities (e.g. -
Stun opponents, Remove debuffs) of your Champions, giving the Player some
customization options.
When a Champion is first summoned they will always have 1 Clan Trait that
only their Clan can be summoned with, plus 1-4 additional Common Traits that
any Champion can be summoned with. In addition, each Trait has a level
associated with it in the range 1-18 (with Companion upgrades it can go up
to 22, see
Traits: Generation), representing the strength of that Trait. The number and level of
Traits for a newly summoned Champion depends on their Rarity:
Clan Traits can be distinguished by their colorful, shimmering
outlines. For example, in the image below we can see that "Focused" is
the Clan Trait for Yivnian Champions by its purple outline (plus it always
appears on the far-left):

Other than the Initial Clan Trait, all other Traits can be changed by
Marrying your Champion at the Royal Hall or by tapping on the Marriage Icon
in the Champion Screen. When Marrying two Champions, you select a single
Trait on the first Champion that you want to swap out, and a randomly
selected Trait from the second Champion will take its place. Most of the
time the first Champion will obtain one of the Common Traits from the second
Champion, but every so often you can obtain the Clan Trait (giving your new
Champion multiple Clan Traits). With enough Marriages you can obtain
whatever combination of Traits you want, but it takes a lot of effort and
resources to do so.
An analysis of how likely you are to obtain different Champions with
different Traits can be found in
Traits: Generation.
Instead we'll provide 5 lists broken up by the "Role" of the Trait/Champion, but keep in mind that the best results can often be obtained by mixing between roles (e.g. - a DPS unit may require higher Initial Energy to ensure they get their Ultimate Skill attack off, or higher Constitution to help them survive until that points).
(Unfortunately these lists were created just after the Altar was used extensively, which means not all skill effects are listed for Level 18 / 22 - this will be updated)
Conclusions
Traits: Tier List
Traits can impact your Champion's fighting ability
dramatically so it's important to aim for the right Traits and
get them to the maximum Level (18 / 22). Unfortunately it's
basically impossible to come up with a single Tier List that is applicable
to everything, for a variety of reasons:
- Different Champion roles (e.g. DPS versus Tank) require different Traits
- Different Champion Skills have synergies with different Traits
- Clan Traits are much harder to obtain than Common Traits
- Different Traits will perform better in PvP than PvE
- Low level Champions will perform better with Traits that modify by fixed values, while High level Champions will perform better with Traits that modify by percent.

DPS Champions are Damage-Per-Second Champions, ones intended to inflict as
much damage as quickly as possible.
- Increasing Strength can be beneficial not only to DPS Champions, but also Skills/Traits that provide Shields or Healing based on their Strength, hence Strength increasing Traits generally being ranked higher than Damage increasing Traits.
- Some Traits impact the entire Team (Fulgur, Lume, Ugrull), and can thus be very useful to place on Tank Champions.
-
Ranking Bloom Uncounted-Adjudication is very difficult because the Trait
provides substantially different benefit based on the underlying
Champion's Attack Speed. While the below improvement looks great,
most damage is delivered via Ultimate Skill attacks. To get the
most out of the Trait you need to time things such that Adjudication
triggers on the same attack as your Champion's Ultimate Skill.
Given these difficulties, we dropped Adjudication in the Tier
List. Late-Game players who can do such optimizations would rank
it higher due to the large increase in damage.
-
You can find each Champion's Attack Speed in the Renowned Champion
tab of Champion List. Select a Champion and click the "i" to
the right of the Stats.
- What it calls "Attack Speed" isn't actually a speed, it's the number of seconds in between each Attack (i.e. - Attack Period).
- Agile (Level 22) increases Attack Speed by 30%, meaning you attack more frequently. Here GOAT actually means Attack Speed, so the Renowned Champion Attack Speed (i.e. - Attack Period, time between attacks) decreases.
- Example: Ignis Female has a Renowned Champion Attack Speed of 1.5, which means she attacks every 1.5 seconds. Her Real Attack Speed is 1.0/1.5 = 0.6667 Attacks/Second. If you give her the Agile (Level 22) Trait then her Real Attack Speed is increased by 30%, so Real Attack Speed = 1.3 * 0.6667 = 0.8667, and her Renowned Champion Attack Speed drops from 1.5 to 1.0/0.8667 = 1.1538.
- Adjudication (Level 18) increases damage on the next attack by 153.33% of Strength, which is a substantial increase, but can only trigger once every 6 seconds.
- If we make some simplifying assumptions (e.g. - Attacks are instantaneous, our Champion is never Stunned/Banished/Charmed, etc.) then we can work out how much the Trait improves our Champion's Non-Skill damage. The formula is the additional damage divided by the damage done without the Trait: 153.33 / (100 * 6 / Renowned Champion Attack Speed). Here we present how much the Regular (Non-Skill) damage of a Champion is increased based on the Champion's Attack Speed. While Champions only have Renowned Champion Attack Speeds in the range (1.3, 2.0), we present down to 1.0 because Agile (Level 22) increases Attack Speed by 30%.
-
You can find each Champion's Attack Speed in the Renowned Champion
tab of Champion List. Select a Champion and click the "i" to
the right of the Stats.
- There is good synergy between the Travain Clan Trait (increase Attack Rate), and Traits that scale up Per-Attack (Tidestorm, Doombringer).
- The Ignis Clan Trait is special, in that it's only useful if your team is designed around the Ignis Champion's Ultimate Attack and the fact that it scales up based on the number of Burning Debuffs on your opponents. If this how your team is constructed then the Ignis Clan Trait can be placed on every member of your team, but if it isn't how your team is constructed then it's a worthless Trait for any Champion except Ignis.
- Athletic is great Early-Game because the 13,000 increase in Strength is quite large compared to your base Strength, but in Late-Game it's a waste of a Trait Slot.
- Ranking Tidestorm-Aggressive and Dvravapala-Fighting Will is very difficult since it strongly depends on whether your team is trying to win the battles in the first 10 seconds or trying to outlast your opponent.
Tank Champions are intended to absorb as much damage as possible so the rest
of your team can focus on killing the opposing team.
-
Ordering Energetic and Honorable is difficult due to the existence of
Guardian's Stone (GS) and associated improvements to Constitution and
Damage Reduction:
- With zero GS improvement, Energetic is better, this is true even when comparing Level 22 Honorable (33.33% Equivalent Constitution increase) to only Level 18 Energetic (40.00% Constitution increase).
- With full GS improvement, Honorable is better. Constitution increases in GS are Champion-Role dependent, but GS fully upgraded Damage Reduction makes Honorable better across the board. Level 22 Honorable plus 20% GS Damage Reduction is equivalent to an 81.82% increase in Constitution.
- We suggest starting with Energetic and then transitioning to Honorable in Late-Game as you upgrade your Guardian's Stone.
- Healthy and Scrappy are great Early-Game when your Base Constitution/Fortitudes are low, but in Late-Game they're a waste of Trait Slots.
- Some Tank Traits only work for the first 10 seconds (Tenacious, Ardent, Brave), which can be great in PvP to survive long enough for your own team to use their Ultimate Skills, but after those first 10 seconds give you nothing.
- Some Tank Traits require extremely precise timing to take full advantage of (Self-Sacrificing) in PvP mode, when Ultimate Skills are deployed automatically. If your team is fine-tuned enough to take advantage of these then it can be great, otherwise the deployment tends to be too random to turn the battle in your favor.
Utility Champions can fill multiple roles, ranging from Crowd Control
(stopping your opponents from using their Ultimate Skills) to increasing
your own team's rate of Ultimate Attacks.
- Lionstone's Clan Trait is necessary to get the most out of Lionstone Female's Ultimate Skill (increase your team's Strength and Attack Speed by 200-400% for 5 seconds): the Lionstone Champion must use her skill before the rest of your Team. The same logic applies to any other "ordered" Ultimate Skills (skills that need to be triggered in a specific order across your Champions in order to be most effective).
- Increasing your Energy Gain rate allows you to use your Ultimate Skills more often, but if your team is designed around killing the opposing team with the first round of Ultimate Skills then it won't give you much benefit.
- Stunning and Silencing your opponents can be great for PvP, but the rate at which those Traits fire is low and you can't replay the fights repeatedly. In PvE you can replay the same fight over and over, which means you may eventually get a lucky string of Stun/Silences and beat a level you otherwise had no chance of beating.

Healing Champions Tier List |
Healing Champions try to restore your team's Constitution, either via direct healing or by giving them Lifesteal buffs.
- Lifesteal healing shouldn't be applied to every Champion, as the rate at which you'll recover Constitution is too low to materially impact the fight. Only if there are synergies with your Champion/Teams other Traits/Skills is it worth it, meaning only if your Team is designed around maximizing Lifesteal + Attack Speed.

Leadership Champions Tier List |
Leadership Champions don't participate in battles, and are typically
constrained to your Districts (see
District Income: Champions).
- Every District Champion should eventually have both of these Traits, while none of your Fighting Champions should.

Inspiring increases allies’ damage, not strength. Because of that, maybe it should rank a little higher?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, we haven't played Bloodline: Heroes of Lithas in nearly ten months, so these lists are fairly outdated both in terms of not including all Traits and in terms of ranking them.
