Overview

Dungeon Descent is one of the many PvE modes of Bloodline: Heroes of Lithas, allowing players an opportunity to descend through 25 levels of Dungeons: 20 that must be fought and 5 that have Rewards and Stores.  To help defeat your opponents, you can open Treasure Chests to get Relics that provide extremely strong buffs to your team, as well as get limited choice of (temporary) Mythic Champions.  It resets every 3 days and, despite it taking several hours to complete, players should run Dungeon Descent to completion every time as the rewards and stores are quite good.

On each Fighting Level you must explore hexagonal tiles until you find the tile containing that level's Boss, and if you defeat the Boss then it will open a door to the next level.  There are several types of tiles you can come across:

Relic Chest Relic Chest: choose from three Relics, usually Rare.
Item Chest Item Chest: get an Item, without choice.
Gold Gold: gold that can be spent at stores on the Reward Levels.
Spinner Spinner: randomly determined Gold or Item.
Healing Altar Healing Altar: Heals all your Champions by a small amount.
Revival Altar Revival Altar: Revives one dead Champion to low Health.
Champion Pedestal Champion Pedestal: Select one of three Mythic Champions.
Basic Mob Basic Mob: provides a Relic Chest.
Boss Mob Boss Mob: provides a Special Relic Chest (Epic/Legendary).

Every 5 levels (i.e. - Levels 5, 10, 15, 20) you get a "Save Point", which you can restore your progress to in case you messed something up on subsequent levels.  Be aware that if you (e.g.) are on Level 18 and restore to Level 15 then you will lose everything gained from Levels 16-18.  You can also reset the Dungeon entirely and restart from Level 1 if things aren't going well.  Both of those resets carry zero penalty, so feel free to use them if you aren't getting the Relics or Champions you need to make it to Level 25.  Lastly, every 5 levels there will also be a Rewards Chest and two Stores, rather than the above listed tiles to explore.  These rewards/stores are why we're bothering to spend a few hours in Dungeon Descent, and this page is devoted to maximizing your chances of reaching Level 25 and obtaining all the rewards.

Conclusions

We'll discuss three aspects of Dungeon Descent: Rewards, Best Relics, and Champions.

Rewards

The reason to do Dungeon Descent is to get the rewards, which come in two forms:

(1) Guaranteed Rewards

You automatically (don't forget to click on the Treasure Chest!) get the following rewards if you reach the associated Level:
  • Level 5: 3 Wedding Rings, 1 Intimacy Preference Chest, 5 Energy Potions, 1 Bonus Gold (1 Hour)
  • Level 10: 2 Courting Bouquets, 1 Intimacy Preference Chest, 8 Energy Potions, 2 Bonus Gold (1 Hour)
  • Level 15: 5 Weddings Rings, 1 Intimacy Preference Chest, 10 Energy Potions, 5 Bonus Gold (1 Hour)
  • Level 20: 5 Courting Bouquets, 2 Intimacy Preference Chests, 20 Energy Potions, 8 Bonus Gold (1 Hour)
  • Level 25: 8 Courting Bouquets, 12 Wedding Rings, 5 Intimacy Preference Chests, 30 Energy Potions, 10 Bonus Gold (1 Hour)

(2) Purchasable Rewards

There are two Stores on each Reward Level.  One of them offers items for Intimacy, Charm, and Marriage at steep discounts and are a huge draw of doing Dungeon Descent.  Here we show the price of Intimacy/Charm items from Dungeon Descent as compared to other places you can obtain them (For Event Packs we assume the third tier of items provide 3.5 {Intimacy, Charm} on average):

Store Price Comparison

Purchasing Intimacy/Charm items from the Dungeon Descent store at 90% discount is the cheapest way you can get them by far, and even at the 80% discount are only slightly worse than the 599 Gem Support Packs.  If you're trying to increase your Intimacy or Charm, you should purchase these every time you can.

Best Relics

As you get to deeper and deeper levels, the opponents can grow in strength dramatically.  By the last few levels they will easily overpower your team, except we have access to Relics that make your team significantly stronger or make your opponents significantly weaker.  The approach that we've found works the best is to:
  1. Heal your team
  2. Deal damage as quickly as possible to all opponents
Unlike in Arena or the Campaign, your Health carries over from battle to battle.  Given that you'll likely be doing roughly 100 battles, if you aren't healing your team then you'll burn through your Champions rapidly.  Luckily there are some Relic combinations that aid in Healing and Damage when used together.  Here we present a ranked list of the Relics you should try and get, whether from Relic Chests or from the Stores at Levels 5, 10, 15, 20.

(Unfortunately, the descriptions of some Relics disagree between the Relic Bag and Relic Codex.  In addition, some Relics spontaneously change from one power to another when going from Rare -> Epic -> Legendary (e.g. Banner of Inspiration).  Here we present the "Relic Codex" description, but pay attention when selecting Relics.)

Suggested Relics to Complete Dungeon Descent

Energy+Health Regeneration

Potion of Rage Potion of Rage: Increases Champions' starting Energy when the battle starts
Crystal of Wrath Crystal of Wrath: Restores additional Health when Energy is higher than a certain percentage
Stone of Life Stone of Life: Restores additional Energy when Health is higher than a certain percentage
Energy Gem Energy Gem: The friendly Champion restores a great amount of Energy after casting an Ultimate Skill

Entire Team Damage Increase

Banner of Command Banner of Command: Increases friendly Champion's Attack
Banner of Valor Banner of Valor: Increases friendly Champion's Total Damage
Banner of Dread Banner of Dread: Reduces all enemies' Health
Banner of Power Banner of Power: Reduces all enemies' Defense
Savage Battle Axe Savage Battle Axe: Deals splash damage to nearby enemies when dealing damage to a target
Reaper's Scythe Reaper's Scythe: Immediately executes enemy targets of Health lower than a certain percentage

Subset of Team Damage Increase

Flaming Battle Axe Flaming Battle Axe: Increases the Attack of teammates in the front row
Sharp Blade Sharp Blade: Increases the Attack of teammates in the back row
Spiked Barricade Spiked Barricade: Increases the Total Damage of teammates in the front row
Spiked Buckler Spiked Buckler: Increases the Total Damage of teammates in the back row
Hawkeye Sight Hawkeye Sight: Increases the Total Damage of Mage and Marksman Champions

While it may seem counterintuitive to focus on the various Energy+Health Regeneration Relics over the Damage increasing Relics below them, combining the top four Relics allows you to use your Ultimate Skills very rapidly, restore Energy soon after, and Heal the entire time.  They work amazingly well together.  When you can't get any of the above Relics, grab anything that increases your Team's Total Damage Resistance as this will buy you some time.

Champions

You start with a team of 5 Champions from your own supply.  As you go through the levels you come across Champion Pedestals, but those only give you access to a handful of Champions:

Champion Pedestal Choices
  • Ignis - {Female,Male}
  • Ugrull - {Female, Male}
  • Fulgur - {Female, Male}
  • Lionstone - {Female, Male}
  • Tidestorm - {Female, Male}
  • Lycanis - {Female, Male}
  • The Scorching Fire - {Female, Male}
  • Nasse - {Female, Male}
  • Strixbane - {Female, Male}
Suggested Champions to Complete Dungeon Descent

Hitting the entire opposing team at once and ending the battle quickly is integral to surviving.  As such, Lionstone - Female is a must: she increases the amount of damage you can inflict in that first burst dramatically.  She works best supporting Mage Champions that hit many opponents at once, rather than most Assassin or Marksman Champions that target 1-3 opponents.  In addition, healing/shields can help you survive until you find the right Relics.  The most successful Non-Event Champions that you should bring from your own supply or select from the Champion Pedestal are:
  • Lionstone
    • Female: Improves burst damage for your entire team.
    • Male: Shields your entire team.
  • Aeson
    • Female: Heals lowest Health teammate.
    • Male: Hit the entire opposing team.  Shields one teammate.
  • Ignis
    • Female: Hits 5 opponents in succession.
    • Male: Hits multiple opponents.
  • Fulgur
    • Female: Hits multiple opponents.
    • Male: Hits the entire opposing team.
  • Ugrull
    • Female: Rapidly heals self
    • Male: Increases Lifesteal for self.
If you have a good supply of Event Champions then the following are great Healers to get you through the early levels:
  • White Eye
    • Female: Heals your entire team
  • Lume
    • Male: Heals your entire team

  1. Great work and thanks for compiling all of this!

    Some additional notes based on my experience:
    1. Increase Health % relics appear to actually heal that amount every round. Not sure if this is a temporary bug as of April 2023 or if this is intended, but works very well for me, so I always prioritize health % relics
    2. Banners relics give you the greatest return on investment vs front/back row relics (+25% total instead of +20%)
    3. The spyglass or whatever it is called (+% damage for marksman and mages) is the best attack buff in the game, because it will hit 3 or 4 champions towards the end. Once you get enough health buffs, you can put marksman or mages in the frontline too and they are still tanky enough to not give a rip, plus your damage goes through the rough
    4. Always explore in a honeycomb pattern. You want to try and isolate hexes as efficiently as possible so that you don't lock hexes with enemies. In the beginning once you get your health buffs you should be fighting as many enemies as possible to get more relics, but once you are running over the enemy team you can save a lot of time by just skipping the enemies you don't want to fight. Try to use honeycomb patterns to complete surround as many squares as possible (or border them with the edge) before revealing those hexes
    5. Enemy strength seems to be based off of your average champion level when you start the dungeon. So, if you change the levels of the champions you started the decent with it will lower the levels of your entire team of recruited champions (big yikes) and make it a lot harder. I am going to see if you can abuse this the opposite direction by resetting all my champions before starting and see if I can just breeze the whole dungeon.

    1. Thank you for the notes, these are great to know!

      A few responses:
      1. If I can verify that Increase-Health Relics heal in between fights then I'll definitely add them to the page as priority-Relics to get. That's incredibly useful.
      3. It's called Hawkeye Sight, and I added it to the page. It's definitely the case that in later rounds most of my team are Mage Champions, so a great addition.
      5. Way to notice this! Typically by round 10 I've got the Relics I need and don't notice if Enemy strength increases in response to leveling up Champions, but for early-game players this is quite useful to know.

      Please post comments on the other Bloodline pages if you have helpful hints for those as well!
